1Lt Saul Nova, RIP

One of our last Headhunter P-38 pilots, Saul Nova, passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018, in Denver, Colorado.  Saul was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 24, 1924, and was 94 years old.  He was preceded in death by his son Melvin in 1974, and his wife Pansy in 2002.  His graveside service was held at the Fairmount Cemetery in Denver on Wednesday, November 7th, and was attended by numerous family members and friends, including son Jeffrey, daughter Ilene, and several grand and great-grandchildren.  Saul requested a simple ceremony and asked that the tune “Stars and Stripes Forever” be played as he was laid to rest.  I was honored to be invited, as the Headhunters Association was close to his heart.  When the ceremony was complete, after explaining the tradition to the attendees, I threw a nickel on the grass for Saul.  RIP Saul Nova.
